Apple (computer)

How did Apple Inc. get its name?

Before founding Apple Computers, Steve Jobs had been working part-time on a communal apple orchard in Oregon. Apple Inc. co-founder Steve Wozniak suggests this was Jobs' primary inspiration behind the name, however he has also mentioned the possible influence of Apple Records, the Beatles' record label.

The name Apple Computers offered a refreshing alternative to the aloof, overly technical, unapproachable  qualities suggested by the names of Apple's competitors, such as IBM, DEC and Cincom.
