Why are certain tight-fitting jeans called Apple Bottoms?

Apple Bottoms is a fashion label for women launched by rap artist Nelly in 2003. Originally specializing in denim, the term apple bottom jeans referred to tight-fitting pants that accentuated the curvaceous figure of the woman wearing them (particularly her backside), which reminded the jeans' namers of the shape of an apple.
